LightBridge Healthcare Offers Help to the 10 Million Americans Caring for Someone with Alzheimer's

New Product Provides Expert Tips and Strategies for Addressing the
Varying Stages of Alzheimer’s

(San Antonio, Texas, November 1, 2007) The nearly 10 million Americans caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease will now have access to cutting-edge information and resources thanks to the launch of a new CD-ROM series called Enlightened Alzheimer Caregiving, which will empower at-home caregivers with a greater understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and the changes expected with varying stages.

A product of LightBridge Healthcare Research Inc., Enlightened Alzheimer Caregiving includes 20 volumes that offer strategic tips and research-based information as well as personal interviews with caregivers and creative coping strategies.  The first two CDs, Overview of Alzheimer’s Disease and Managing the Difficulties of Mealtime, are slated for release on November 1st to coincide with National Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Funding from the National Institute of Health and a new alliance with the National Alzheimer’s Association has enabled LightBridge Healthcare Research Inc. to develop this product.

The Overview of Alzheimer’s Disease CD provides the viewer with a comprehensive understanding of the disease and care strategies based on research and real caregiver’s experience.  Managing the Difficulties of Mealtime is the first volume in this series to turn your attention to behaviors related to a specific topic.  From wandering and pacing to dehydration and constipation, this CD provides the viewer with an awareness of the diseases effects, as well as solutions on how to improve difficult situations a caregiver may encounter.

“With an estimated 5.1 million people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease today, many families face the strain of caring for a loved one at home,” said Tom Elin, CEO of LightBridge Healthcare Research Inc.  “When my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, I made it my life mission to educate people about the disease and improve the lives of people with Alzheimer’s.  I worked with a team of experts to develop the LightBridge CDs because I wanted to create an educational product that caregivers everywhere, not just those in nursing centers, could benefit from.  By translating current scientific research into a user-friendly, affordable CD-ROM series we are offering caregivers across the nation the best possible information and methods for dealing with loved ones who suffer from the disease.”

“As a nurse practitioner, a researcher specializing in gerontology and a family caregiver, I have shared in the experience of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s,” said Karen Kauffman, board certified Gerontological Nurse Practitioner and an Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing.  “In my line of work, I have found that caregivers are often stressed from the daily burdens of care and may have difficulties finding quality information.  I believe LightBridge is designed to meet the needs of the daily caregiver by offering quality information they can use to enhance the lives of those they care for.”

LightBridge products are created in both Spanish and English and include other features such as user-friendly navigation, interactive learning methods, encyclopedia-like glossary, frequently asked questions, search capabilities and so much more.  In developing these caregiver training programs, LightBridge collaborated with leading academic researchers, clinical practitioners and national Universities including, University of Maryland, University of Texas, University of Iowa, Duke University School of Nursing and the University of New Mexico.

The CDs are available for purchase on its website at www.LightBridgeHealthcare.com and are highly affordable.  Complementing the research-based educational programs on the CD-Rom is LightBridge’s content-rich website.  Research updates, articles and links to the most current information on Alzheimer care are also available.
