What can I do to improve my husband's appetite? He doesn't even like what used to be his favorite foods.

when someone won't eat even their favorite foods it is time to try new things, new textures, or new environments. You might try simple items to start like fruits that can be held, or simply sandwiches. It sometimes work to start with something sweet like a small portion of ice cream and then move to the proteins... experiment!

Sometimes a loss of appetite can be due to a medical reason such as infection, vitamin deficiency, or kidney or liver problems. If experimenting with food doesn't help or the problem persists, you should take your husband to see a physician for evaluation.

My daughter worked in a nursing home as an RN. When I ran into problems getting my husband to eat, she told me to add sugar, or spice, or extra salt. I added sugar, even on such weird things as lasagna, and he now eats every bite I put before him.

When my husband won't start eating when I put food in front of them, I find that it sometimes works to help him get started eating. I take a bite of my food first to show him that we are eating. Then I slowly bring the food to his mouth and tell him to take a bite. It seems like he just needs a little help getting the process started.
