#1 12/16/2007 07:07 Handling False Beliefs - Arguing Doesn't Help
Sometimes people with Alzheimer’s disease believe things that are untrue, develop false memories, or become suspicious or paranoid of others. This can be a normal part of disease progression. Because the false beliefs seem real to them, it is usually not productive to try to convince them otherwise. Try to avoid correcting or arguing with them. Focus on feelings rather than facts. Sometimes it helps to try to find out why they hold these beliefs. If the beliefs are unhealthy, try to redirect them onto other topics or activities.
